Minutes of 9-30 NorCal Occupy Ed meeting in Berkeley
The agenda was limited to a discussion of the upcoming October 20 student union conference.
1. Proposed conference agenda. An agenda needs to be finalized by our next meeting. We discussed this and suggest the following, encouraging others to weigh in with improvements:
9:00-10:00 Light breakfast, such as bagels, coffee, and juice (we note the current room(s) is reserved starting at noon – this is addressed later below – we agreed the conference needs to be all-day)
10:00-10:10 Introductory speech going over the results of the previous SoCal conference. This is to frame the discussion as a follow-up building on what was agreed earlier in the year.
10:10-10:30 Introductions – go around the room and each person state just their name and school.
10:30-11:00 Short break-out meetings for people to tell each other what is going on at their schools and to share any action ideas they may have.
11:00-12:30 Plenary to raise, discuss, and vote on action proposals we can encourage all to participate in.
12:30- 1:30 On-site lunch
1:30- 2:00 Video or Skype with Quebec student (maybe the one we had at the forum yesterday?), followed by brief Q/A
2:00- 4:00 Student union discussion: raising, discussing, and voting on proposals for networking, state-wide structure, etc.
4:00- 5:00 Break out meetings for working groups such as outreach and media
Possible party in evening… (let’s party, so says Carlos!)
2. Logistical matters:
a. Food – Evan will bottom-line looking into getting food from co-ops, donations of food and money, asking unions to help pay for food, etc.
b. Rooms – Millie will contact Olivia, who has done the current room reservations, to see if we can get space all day. Discussed potential back-up of asking UAW to use their hall, if necessary.
c. Conference call – It’s basically ready to go. Honest will bottom-line getting it out to the different lists.
d. Possible Quebec student on Skype – Eric will bottom-line.
e. Outreach: Honest will bottom-line posting a Facebook event (via SDU).
f. We need a housing committee for out-of-area guests.
