Here is something for discussion. Is the tactic of getting arrested the best way to get attention to the cause? Generally, civil disobedience was directed at the institution and the intent was to make it hard or impossible for that institution to operate. Example: sits in during the Civil Rights movement were directed at segregated stores, segregated bus systems, etc... Thoreau went to jail for refusing to pay his taxes which supported the Mexican War. But getting arrested at the Capitol doesn't direct effect schools or legislators who we want to influence. I suggest that instead of getting arrested, which removes the problem from the Capitol, that demonstrators avoid arrest by leaving at closing time and return, day after day, chanting, conducting GAs, in the Rotunda and even in the gallery of the the Assembly and Senate. This would get the attention of the legislators and the press for long periods. We need new and more effective tactics and this approach would also save our time and money to be directed toward the legislators instead of the CHP.

If the United States is a country based on Equality and Freedom, what is happening to the greatness in the desire to succeed. Education is the way out of mental poverty yet it is not free to all. What must people do to prosper intellectually and financially? We vote for equality yet education is always on the chopping block. Why establish No Child Left Behind guidelines, if we as students cannot enter college at an later time. See education is not only a gift but a dream that makes living worthwhile.

First off, let me say this: This is coming from a supporter, not some ruling class sympathizer. I've been active in demonstrations and actions since the anti-nuclear movement of the 80s. That said, I'm pretty upset about the condition Occupy cats left my neighborhood. Southside Park was used as a staging area for the Occupy the Capitol action. It really is uncool what a mess was left in the park. Leaving the park in such a state (with unused, half-made signs and dozens of "Why Occupy the Capitol" fliers littering the place) is not going to hurt the 1%. Rather it will piss off regular working folks who may now be a little inclined to lend their support. While the occupiers should be seen as a righteous opportunity for significant change, when folks leave a mess like Southside Park was left, it merely alienates other citizens and bolsters the arguments of misinformed people who believe that the protesters are just a bunch of dirty hippies. Look, all I'm trying to say is next time pick up after yourselves a little better. There is good organization going on in motivating, transporting, and informing people involved in the action. There needs to be better organization in the post-staging clean-up lest you alienate and lose the support of the people sitting on the fence who might otherwise join the movement.

Hello Everyone!
I am a student at Cal State Los Angeles and following a very successful turnout to our March 1st action and occupation people gathered and expressed their wish to take this to the next level and go to Sacramento on March 5th. However our student government busses are planning on leaving the capitol to head back to LA at noon!!! they want nothing to do with the massive actions that will be going on throughout the day. They only want to go up there because all the other student governments are doing it, they have no desire to enact change through direct action or even value democracy in making this decision.
Is there any way we can accommodate us with transportation that will allow us to stay and participate??? please reply or email me directly.

I plan to be at the rally at noon, I'm not up for the march. I would like to stay for the nonviolent direct action training, but I don't know if I can hold up for that. I'm a 72 year old who wants to "stand" (sit in my walker chair) in solidarity with students on the other side of my BA, MA, two years of seminary, and one year of ARC gerontology studies. Blessings to all for the cause.
